How much do you want for it? 40$. 问价格都用how much。40$ 读作forty dollars $ 美元 2. It’s too much: It’s too expensive. 3. It’s worth $50. worth: prep. 介词;n.(U)不可数名词 eg. I paid only ¥50,000 for this used / second-hand flat and it’s worth much more. 这套旧/二手房我才花5万, 太值了。(worth: prep.) How much is it worth? 这个值多少钱? This writer’s books is worth reading. 这位作家的书值得一读。(worth: prep.) I bought 20 yuan’s worth of fruits to her daughter for her. 我替她给她女儿买了20块钱的水果。(worth: n.) 4. 注意这几句口语常用表达: Come on.得了吧。I tell you what说实在的。To tell you the truth 说实话。还有Dialogue B里的:you see 你看,你想 anyway 不管怎么说 Dialogue B 1. The Johnsons are going to move to a new apartment the + last name(姓氏)指这对夫妇或这一家人。 这句话用的是一般将来时。 apartment(AmE美国英语)和flat(BE英国英语)都是“公寓单元”的意思。美国英语现在用的很普遍,但我们首先要掌握英国英语。 2. 注意介词for在购物用语中的表达: How much do you want for it? I only ask for $40 because… You can have them for a total of $85. I paid $30 for the love seat and $55 for the couch.
Passage 1. When you go shopping, // there are mainly three points ( you should remember ) in order to save money. 购物时要想少花钱你主要得记住三点。 这是一个由主句加when引导的时间状语从句构成的主从复合句。主句中又包括一个定语从句( you should remember )和目的状语in order to save money。划线部分是这个句子里最重要的部分。 2. First, read as many shopping ads as you can. 尽量多看商店广告。 as…as…象…一样…(在否定句里常以so代替第一个as。 eg. It’s not so difficult as I expected. 实际并不象我预料的那么难。) eg. as many/soon as possible 尽可能多/快 run as fast as you can尽可能快跑 3. In this way, you’ll have a clear picture of where to buy things at the lowest prices. 这样,你就能清楚地知道到什么地方能买到最便宜的东西。 have a clear picture of “弄清楚” 这显然是从字面意思引申的比喻,各民族的语言都有丰富生动的喻意表达,英文也是如此。在把这些表达法译成中文时能直译则直译,因文化背景的差异不能顾名思义的就意译。 put sb. on the short list 优先考虑某人 fish in the air 水中捞月 4. If you are lucky, // you’ll get good buys at even lower prices than you expected. 如果运气好,你会买到物美价廉的东西,价格比你预料的还要低。 这是一个由主句加if引导的是条件状语从句构成的主从复合句。 a good buy: a bargain 买得便宜的东西 buy 在这里是名词。 at a price 注意介词at 的用法。 even lower“更低的”,是在比较的基础上再细化比较的程度。 5. Third, you must remember ( that prices vary considerably from store to store and from time to time ) . 记住,不同时候和不同商店的价格变化很大。 这是一个由主句you must remember加that引导的是宾语从句构成的主从复合句。 6. There are always chances ( that you can get good buys by bargaining or asking for discounts ) . 你总是可以讨价还价买到便宜的商品。 这是一个由主句加that引导的是定语从句构成的主从复合句。 by是介词,故后面的动词变成了动名词。 More practice of the text 1 Make a dialogue or tell a story describing a shopping experience (描述一次购物体验)that you get a good buy by by bargaining or asking for discounts. 2 Tell me what you think we can do to save our money while (当...时)shopping.
